HS Limudei Kodesh

Rabbi Chinn’s High School Limudei Kodesh program focuses primarily in the following four areas:  Mussar, Chumash, Halacha and Tefillah.

·   Mussar – we will study the ethical texts of Orchos Tzaddikim, Rambam, and Ramban, as well as more contemporary essays that include Michtav M’Eliyahu, Nisivas Sholom etc.

·   Chumash – This year we will focus on Sefer Vayikra through the lenses of RASHI and other “classic ” meforshim. There will be a stress on skill development for the students to be able decode and understand the texts

·   Halacha – Besides the relevant and timely Yom Tov laws, we will be using the Mishna Brurah as a primary text.  A copy of the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch which includes the decisions of the Mishna Brurah will be necessary

·    Tefillah – will be split between understanding the text of certain Tfillos as well as understanding the ideals of Tefillah. The sefer Shi’arim Ba’ Tfilla will often be used as well as esays by Rabbi Schwab.

Parsha – On a weekly basis the students will have reviewed the parsha (independently) , be quizzed and study a Dvar Torah [As opposed to being told or handed a Dvar Torah for them to read at home.]

Overall, the students will be challenged to study text in their original forms (not “sheets”), and to conduct independent research on Jewish topics that they will have to present.  The environment of a small educational setting allows for questions and discussions, which are ENCOURAGED, while respecting the boundaries of time and topic relevance.
